CURRENT TRENDS IN INTERNATIONAL FUSION RESEARCH: A REVIEW

Washington, D.C., U.S.A., 7 - 11 March 2005
A Conference organized under the auspices of Fusion Reactor Technology, Inc.
and in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

The objective of this series of Symposia is to assess the benefits, applications, and spin-offs of nuclear fusion research, including both conventional and alternative approaches.

The first Symposium in this series was held in Washington, D.C., U.S.A., on 14-18 November 1994 and Plenum Press published the Proceedings in 1997. A full report of the Symposium appeared in a special issue of the Journal of Fusion Energy, 14 (3), 281-327, 1995. As a continuation of these successful biennial conferences, a second Symposium was held in Washington, D.C., U.S.A., on 10-14 March, 1997. The third, fourth, and fifth Symposia were again held in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. in March 1999, March 2001, and March 2003, respectively. The Proceedings of the 2nd and 3rd Symposium have been published by NRC Research Press, while the Proceedings of the 4th and 5th Symposium will be published, again by NRC Research Press, in the year 2005. In the past Symposia, a selected number of scientists, of renowned reputation and stature, were invited to present review papers in their field of interest in fusion research. The gatherings have been international in nature, and many countries were represented. A Panel of Distinguished Scientists and Engineers, which included Drs. Stirling Colgate, Edward Creutz, Arthur Kantrowitz, Richard F. Post, Norman Rostoker (Chairman), Hans J. Schneider-Muntau, and Frederick Seitz, were in charge of commenting on the fusion programs presented at the Symposium, and to provide recommendations with respect to direction, balance, and synergism of the research. Their report for the 1st Symposium appeared in Fusion Technology, 33, 219-231, (1998), as well as in the Proceedings of the Symposium. The Proceedings of the following Symposia also contained the report of the Panel.

A Sixth Symposium is scheduled for 7-11 March 2005 in co-operation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Naval Research Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratory also endorse the Symposium. Invited and contributed papers will be part of the Symposium. Invited observers will also be included.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PRESENTING A PAPER AT THE SYMPOSIUM, PLEASE SUBMIT A ONE-PAGE ABSTRACT BEFORE 2 DECEMBER 2004 TO:
